[TW: rape, ptsd, sexual assault, depression]
I was listening to the NPR 1A Podcast this morning, and while the topic was heavy (the outpouring of stories in support of Dr. Ford’s testimony), I was reminded that no survivor is ever truly alone. Space provided for those who wish to read the poem below may do so, and those who cannot may scroll past.
i witness you. Witness me, please.
[his beard scratches my neck]
[twenty years later]
i love you. Love me, please.
[i ask because i cannot demand]
[i ask nicely politely quietly demurely]
i believe you. Believe me, please.
[the silence of isolation is too much]
[i am not okay, i will be okay]
i share your story. Share mine, please.
[let the heavens ring]
[let justice flow down like a mighty river]
i remind myself, I remind you.
all may not be well, but all shall be well.
all shall be well.
all manner of things shall be well.
[my voice cracks]
[my tears fall]
(hail mary full of love hold us all in grace)
