August 2016 – Theme: Perseverance

August 1, 2016

Trust the process today. Whatever you are doing, trust the process to lead through the unknown. Breathe. Do not panic. You’ve got this.

August 2, 2016

Tell your story today. Live your truth. Affirm the silent outcast by being present in the world. Be honest. Humanize the dehumanized. Be resilient. Breathe. Be here.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain. – Frank Herbert

We are blessed.

The universe is so grand and so complex that we do not even register as specks of dust, and yet-

We are blessed to be here.

In this moment, in this place, we are present, cognizant of our relationship to the universe’s scale, and-

We are blessed to be here, together, today.

We are blessed with purpose, with responsibility, with a deep kinship to all who share our many roads.

We are blessed with a passion for justice. We are blessed with the capability of love. We are blessed with breath, and we are blessed to do good work on behalf of all the Universe.

We are blessed to leave no body behind. We are blessed to be the change we wish to see in the world.

Indeed, we are blessed.

August 5, 2016

Be generous with yourself. Be generous with others. Be grateful when others are generous with you.

August 6, 2016

Find your silence today. Listen to your soul, listen to your body. Know your limits, breathe, take care of yourself. You are a universe of creation, you are valued, you are wanted.

August 8, 2016

Remember your story today. Remember that it says “This too shall pass”, and remember that it reminds you that you are a survivor. Remember your story as your story celebrates your existence- and remember that you are seen, that you are valued, that you are wanted.

August 9, 2016

People will say things that scare you, that unnerve you, that make you anxious. This is especially true when you interface with medical professionals. Remember to take deep breaths when they say those things – it’s their job to be concerned about things you can’t see. Whatever the end result, our dash is all we have. Make it a dash of legend.

August 10, 2016

Too much of our time is spent in some gainful, status-seeking, status-affirming activity and, as a result, we forget to breathe, to rest, to recover. Today, take a moment and pause. Connect with another person in that pause, and begin to build a better way

August 11, 2016

Trust, once given, is a fragile thing requiring time and honesty to mature into strength. Once broken, however, trust becomes a righteous anger that will devour your soul

August 12, 2016

May we be thankful for common ground, for the renewal found in bonds of community. May we continue to work toward a community of like-spirited people, not like-minded people. Be the change, be the community, be the people we wish to see in the world.

August 13, 2016

Let us, no matter how hard, strive to be small. Not in stature or voice, but rather ego. Let us remember that the world is not always about us, that others are valued and wanted, and that we are not the entirety of the story.

August 14, 2016

Be grateful today. Be grateful for the hands you can help, the community you can visit, the unexpected journeys, no matter their length. Be grateful to be present, in the here, in the now.

August 15, 2016

Journeys are odd things. We embark on them with mostly open eyes, spirits focused on what is next and not what is past. It is when we see the journey as a delineating line in the sand that the enormity of it becomes clear. We will not be the same after the journey, and we wouldn’t start it if it weren’t for who we are now. To the journey, what lies ahead, and ever forward, my friends, ever forward.

August 16, 2016

“Fragile, Handle With Care.” It’s something we all are, and something we all need to remember. Treat each other gently and with great patience, even if that means we need to be silent in their presence.

August 17, 2016

One of the keys to creating lasting positive change is communication, communication that requires checking one’s ego at the door. We may have more information than another person about an issue, but what we say is still an opinion. Much like assholes, we all have one – and we would do well to remember that fact.

August 18, 2016

Take a moment today and examine the privilege you have in this society of ours. See how you benefit from the existing systemic biases, reach out to those who are marginalized, and remember that intersectionality requires us _all_ to recognize and work to remove inequality in our society.

August 23, 2016

How we do the work we do is what defines us, not the work itself. Be mindful of your intentionality, be bold in your good works, be tenacious in your affirmations of the outcast.

August 24, 2016

If you look around, you can find a face of God in each thing, because He is not hidden in a church, in a mosque, or a synagogue, but everywhere. As there is no one who lives after seeing him, there is also no one dying after seeing him. Who finds Him, stays forever with him. – Shams Tabrizi

August 25, 2016

Be present today. Not just here in this place, but present in this world. Speak with intention. Love boldly. Be in community. Cross your own borders; start a revolution.

August 26, 2016

Affirm someone today. Be direct, tell them you see them and their struggle, tell them you love them, help them know there are never alone.

August 27, 2016

Connect with your tribe, rejoice in their affirmations and affirm their diversity. Celebrate it all; one person, one life, one story at a time.

August 28, 2016

Take a moment today for worship and reverence. Connect with the world, with the universe, re-center your battered souls in communion with Love.

August 29, 2016

Defend the marginalized today. Be angry at their oppression, confront the injustices, wage war against the status quo. Demand a better world, be strident in your pursuit of truth and equality, do not apologize for setting this world on fire.
